Roseberry County was one of five special areas in the Northern Territory of Australia. These areas were part of how land was officially divided, like how states or counties are divided today.
Roseberry County was officially created on July 15, 1885. It covered the land north of a place called Pine Creek. Unlike some other land divisions, this county was not split into smaller parts called "hundreds."
The idea of Roseberry County was stopped on January 7, 1977. This means it was no longer used as an official land division after that date.
Why Was It Called Roseberry?
Many places in the Northern Territory were named after important people. Roseberry County got its name from a British Prime Minister.
It was named after Archibald Philip Primrose, who was the Fifth Earl of Rosebery. When the county was created, he was visiting the colony of South Australia. About ten years later, he became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
