Rosedale, Colorado was once a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. Today, it is part of the larger city of Greeley.

What Was Rosedale, Colorado?

Rosedale was founded and became an official town in 1939. It was located just south of Greeley. Its main purpose was to offer services that were not allowed in Greeley at the time. Greeley was known as a "dry" town. This meant that certain types of businesses, like those selling alcoholic drinks, were not permitted there.

Why Was Rosedale Created?

Greeley was established as part of the Union Temperance Colony. This group believed in not allowing the sale of alcohol. Because of this, Greeley was a "dry" town for many years. People who lived in Greeley, including students and teachers from Colorado State College of Education (now the University of Northern Colorado), needed a place to buy these items.

So, Rosedale was created. It was located right next to Greeley. Another nearby town, Garden City, also served a similar purpose. These towns became places where people from Greeley could go. Rosedale was sometimes called "Boozeville" until 1972. That year, Greeley changed its rules and allowed the sale of alcoholic drinks within its own city limits.

Rosedale Today

Rosedale is no longer a separate town. It became part of Greeley. The name "Rosedale" is mostly remembered today because of a shopping area. This shopping center is on 11th Avenue. It is on the southern edge of Greeley. It is also just north of the separate city of Evans.
