Rosela Gjylbegu is a talented Albanian singer. She was born on March 13, 1987. Rosela became very famous after winning the Kënga Magjike music competition in 2009.

About Rosela

Rosela Gjylbegu grew up in Shkodër, Albania. She went to a special school for teachers there. Later, she studied Social Work at the University of Tirana and earned a master's degree in gender equality. Since 2009, she has worked at the Albanian Parliament. Rosela also loves ballet and different sports.

How She Started Singing

When Rosela was a child, she loved taking part in school activities. She sang in choirs at children's festivals in Shkodër and later became a solo singer. Even though she loved ballet, her music journey started by chance. When she was eleven, she sang Mariah Carey's "Without You" because a friend couldn't perform. Her teacher was very impressed and helped her join the Children's Cultural Centre.

In 1999, Rosela sang in a group called "Të Europës jemi ne" (We are Europe's). They won second prize. She also performed in many other local events.

Becoming Famous

A big chance came for Rosela in 2003. She joined "Ethet e së premtes mbrëma", which was like the Albanian version of "Pop Idol". This show changed her life! She showed off her amazing voice and reached third place. This made her very popular with the audience.

Rosela's Music Career

After "Ethet", Rosela quickly started her professional music career.

Early Performances

In December 2003, Rosela sang "Hirushja" at Festivali i Këngës 42 and won third prize. The next year, in 2004, she was a back-up singer for Albania's first entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004. She sang with Anjeza Shahini's song, "The Image of You".

Later in 2004, she performed a duet called "Pëshpëritje zemrash" with Arbër Arapi at Festivali i Këngës 43. In December 2006, she won second place at Festivali i Këngës 45 with the song "Pa ty, pa mua".

Kënga Magjike Success

Rosela has had great success at the "Kënga Magjike" festival.

  • In 2007, she won the "Magjia e Parë" prize with "Për ne të dy".
  • In 2008, her song "Tjetra" won the "Çmimi Çesk Zadeja".
  • In 2009, Rosela teamed up with Kosovar singer Eliza Hoxha for the song "Rruga e zemrës" (Hearts' way). They won first place and another "Çmimi Çesk Zadeja" prize! This song's music video was Rosela's first.
  • In 2011, Rosela sang "Sikur të isha ti" (Wish I was you) at "Kënga Magjike" for the fourth time. She won the Best Lyrics prize and came in fifth overall. This song was also very popular on the radio.

Other Festival Appearances

Rosela continued to perform at "Festivali i Këngës". In 2007, she sang "Po lind një yll". In 2009, she performed "Një tjetër jetë" with Eliza Hoxha and Pirro Çako. In 2011, she was a special guest at the 50th "Festivali i Këngës" gala. She sang "Mesnatë" (Midnight) as a tribute to the famous artist Vaçe Zela.

Këngët e Shekullit (Songs of the Century)

Singing Classic Songs

From 2010 to 2011, Rosela was part of a popular TV show called "Këngët e Shekullit" (Songs of the Century) on TV Klan. This show featured ten of the best Albanian music artists singing one hundred classic songs. Rosela was the youngest participant. She performed alongside many famous singers.

She sang many well-known songs each week, like "Kur më del në derë" (When you get at the door) and "O zambak i bardhë" (White lily). She even did a virtual duet with Xhavit Xhepa for "Këndon gjeli" (Rooster sings).

In January 2011, Rosela had her own special concert on the show called "Rosela dhe miqtë" (Rosela and friends). She sang her own songs and also performed a mix of other artists' songs. She even sang a duet with her father, Myfit Gjylbegu.

International Hits

From late 2011 to early 2012, Rosela also took part in the fourth season of "Këngët e Shekullit" which focused on famous foreign songs. She performed many duets, including "I don't wanna talk about it" with Redon Makashi and "I want to spend my lifetime loving you" with Frederik Ndoci. She sang in English, French, and Italian.

Musical Theater

In 2004, Rosela was in the musical "Notre-Dame de Paris" in Albania. She played the role of Fleur-de-Lys and sang "Ces diamants-là" in a duet.

TV and Hosting

In December 2009, she appeared in a music video for the song "S'të fal" (I won't forgive you). In 2010, Rosela was the host of a documentary called "Discover Tirana with Rosela Gjylbegu". This documentary helped people learn about the culture in Tirana, Albania.

She also appeared in a comedy show called "Apartamenti 2XL" in 2010. In July 2012, Rosela hosted the 50th Albanian Nationwide Children's Song Festival in Shkodër with comedian Julian Deda. In 2018, she was a jury member for Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
