The roughback sea catfish, also known as Plicofollis tonggol, is a type of catfish that lives in the ocean. People in Indonesia call it manyung and in the Philippines it's known as arahan. This fish is very important for fishing in these countries. After being caught, roughback sea catfish are often dried in the sun and salted. This helps to preserve them before they are sold and eaten.

About the Roughback Sea Catfish

The roughback sea catfish can grow up to 40 centimeters (about 16 inches) long. These fish live in the salty waters of warm, tropical parts of the world. They mostly eat small sea creatures without backbones, called invertebrates.

Be careful if you ever see one! Roughback sea catfish have sharp, pointed fins on their backs. These fins can cause injury if someone holds the fish without protecting their hands.

Where Do Roughback Sea Catfish Live?

You can find roughback sea catfish living near the coasts of several countries. They are common in the waters around Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Pakistan.
