Roxann Dawson (born September 11, 1958) is an American actress and director. She is famous for playing B'Elanna Torres in the TV show Star Trek: Voyager from 1995 to 2001. After her acting career, she became a director. She has directed many episodes for popular TV series.

Early Life and Education

Roxann Caballero was born in Los Angeles, California, on September 11, 1958. She went to the University of California, Berkeley. She graduated from there in 1980.

Acting Roles

Roxann Dawson started her acting career on Broadway. Her first professional job was in the play A Chorus Line. She also appeared as a dancer in the 1985 movie version of the play.

In 1989, Dawson worked on the TV show Nightingales. There, she met Eric Dawson, who later became her second husband. After Nightingales ended, she got guest roles on shows like Matlock and Jake and the Fat Man.

In 1994, Roxann Dawson got a big role. She was cast as B'Elanna Torres in Star Trek: Voyager. B'Elanna Torres is a half-human, half-Klingon engineer. Roxann was a main character for all seven seasons of the show.

She also appeared in other TV shows. These include Baywatch, The Closer, Without a Trace, and Seven Days.

Directing and Producing

While working on Star Trek: Voyager, Roxann Dawson tried directing. Her first time directing was for the episode "Riddles" in 1999. She also directed another Voyager episode called "Workforce".

After Voyager, she directed 10 episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise. She even voiced a computer in one of those episodes.

Roxann Dawson has directed many other famous TV shows. Some of these include Charmed, Lost, Heroes, The Closer, The Mentalist, and The Good Wife. She also directed episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Mercy Street, The Deuce, and Foundation. More recently, she directed episodes of Dark Matter in 2024.

Besides directing, Dawson has also worked as a producer. She was a producer for shows like Scandal, Crossing Jordan, and Cold Case.

Writing Works

Roxann Dawson is also a writer. Her first play, Desire to Fall, was performed in 1986. Her second play, Passage Through the Heart, came out in 1997.

From 2000 to 2001, she co-wrote a series of science fiction novels. These books are called the Tenebrea trilogy. She wrote them with Daniel Graham. The titles are Entering Tenebrea, Tenebrea's Hope, and Tenebrea Rising.

Personal Life

Roxann Dawson was married to actor Casey Biggs. They later divorced. Casey Biggs also appeared in a Star Trek show, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

In May 1994, Roxann married Eric Dawson. He was a casting director whom she met while working on Nightingales. They have two daughters, one of whom was adopted from China. Roxann joined the Catholic Church in 1994. This later inspired her to direct the 2019 Christian film Breakthrough.
