Sir John Roy Sambles, born in 1945, is a famous British scientist. He is an experimental physicist, which means he studies how things work by doing experiments. He used to be the head of the Institute of Physics, a big group for physicists.
Sir Roy was born in Callington, Cornwall. He studied physics at Imperial College London and earned his university degrees there. He has written over 550 scientific papers in international journals. In 2002, he became a Fellow of the Royal Society, which is a great honor for scientists.
From 1991 to 2022, Sir Roy was a Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Exeter. He spent many years studying how light interacts with different materials. His research group looked at many interesting things.
