Roy Henry Stanbrook was born in 1957 in Surrey, England. He loved the sea from a young age and decided to become a sailor. He studied at two important places: the Greenwich Royal Naval College and the Warsash School of Navigation from 1975 to 1979. These schools taught him everything about ships and sailing.
A Career at Sea
Captain Stanbrook had a long and exciting career.
- He worked for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA). These are ships that help the Royal Navy.
- He served on a ship called the RFA Sir Galahad during the Falklands War in 1982. He also served in the Gulf War.
- During his time at sea, he became a Master Mariner. This means he was qualified to command any size of ship on any ocean.
- He also gained experience in other areas like underwater engineering and managing ships.
- He worked for a company called BT Marine, which uses ships to lay cables under the sea.

- In 2012, he moved to Gibraltar to become the Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Port Authority and the Captain of the Port. This was a very important job, overseeing all the ships and activities in Gibraltar's busy port.
- The Minister for Tourism in Gibraltar, Neil Costa, was very happy with Captain Stanbrook's appointment. He wanted Captain Stanbrook to help the port grow and develop.
- One of the main activities in Gibraltar's port is bunkering. This is when ships stop to refuel. Captain Stanbrook helped make this process much faster and more efficient.
Later Career and Legacy
In April 2014, Captain Stanbrook took on a new role as the Harbour Master for the Port of Melbourne in Australia. He worked there until he retired in January 2020.
