History of the Theatre

The Royal Oak Music Theatre was built in 1928 by a businessman named John H. Kunsky. It started out as a movie theater. For many years, people went there to watch films.

Becoming a Concert Spot

In 1978, the theatre, which had been closed for a while, got a new life. A concert promoter named Paul Stanley reopened it as a place for live music and comedy shows.

The very first concert held there was on April 2, 1978, featuring Maria Muldaur and Martin Mull. Soon after, famous acts like Steve Martin and Hall & Oates performed. In July 1978, the band Prism even recorded a live album called “Live Tonite” during one of their shows at the theatre.

New Ownership and Shows

The theatre was privately owned for a long time. In 2004, a company called Worldwide Entertainment, LLC bought it. After this, the theatre started hosting more types of shows, including Off Broadway plays and musicals. Since 2007, a company called AEG Live has been in charge of running the theatre.
