History of the Theatre
The Royal Oak Music Theatre first opened in 1928. It was started by a businessman named John H. Kunsky. When it first opened, it was a movie theater, showing films to audiences.
From Movies to Music
After some time, the theater closed down. But in 1976, it got a new life! A concert promoter from Detroit, Paul Stanley, reopened it as a place for concerts and comedy. The very first concert held there was on April 3, 1976, featuring Maria Muldaur and Martin Mull.
Another early show, called 'The Martins are coming,' starred Martin Mull and Steve Martin. Tickets for that show cost only $5.50! The third concert featured a new music group called Hall & Oates. In July 1978, the band Prism even recorded a live album called “Live Tonite” at the theatre during one of their performances.
New Ownership and Management
The theatre was owned by private individuals until 2004. That year, a company called Worldwide Entertainment, LLC, bought it. They started bringing different kinds of shows to the venue, including Off Broadway performances and musicals. Since 2007, a company called AEG Live has been in charge of running the theatre.

General Admission Setup
- General admission: This setup allows up to 1,700 people to attend. In this arrangement, most people stand, giving them more space to move around and enjoy the show.
Cabaret and Theatre Setups
- Cabaret: This setup can hold 782 people. For this style, 562 people can sit on the main floor, and 200 people can sit in the mezzanine (an upper balcony area).
- Theatre: This setup is for 1,000 people. Here, 718 people can sit on the main floor, and 282 people can sit in the mezzanine.
For comedy shows, the theatre can hold 1,500 people if some are standing. If everyone has a seat, it can hold 1,050 people.
