Roz Ryan (born Rosalyn Bowen) is an American actress, singer, and comedian. She has worked in movies, TV shows, and Broadway plays for over 40 years!

Roz Ryan is famous for many roles. She played Amelia Hetebrink in the TV show Amen. She was also the voice of Thalia, the Muse of Comedy, in Disney's 1997 animated movie Hercules. More recently, she appeared on the Disney Channel show K.C. Undercover as Grandma Gayle.

Who is Roz Ryan?

Roz Ryan was born Rosalyn Bowen in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents were Gertrude and Thomas Bowen. She finished Mackenzie High School in 1969. A year later, she recorded a song called "You're My Only Temptation."

For 13 years, Roz Ryan was a singer in nightclubs in Detroit. Then, a friend told her to try out for a Broadway musical called Ain't Misbehavin. This show featured the music of Fats Waller. Her audition went well, and she was on stage just 10 days later!

Roz Ryan's Broadway Career

After Ain't Misbehavin', Roz Ryan starred in many other Broadway musicals. One of her most famous roles is Matron "Mama" Morton in the Tony Award-winning musical Chicago. She holds the record for playing this character the longest!

Other plays she has been in include A Christmas Carol, Dreamgirls, One Mo' Time, and The Pajama Game. In 2016, she started her 13th time playing Matron "Mama" Morton in Chicago.

Roz Ryan on TV and in Movies

Roz Ryan is also well-known for her TV roles. She played Amelia Hetebrink on Amen, Mrs. Dixon on Good News, and Flo Anderson on All About the Andersons. She also appeared as a guest star on Barbershop.

Her voice acting is very popular too! She was the voice of Thalia in Disney's Hercules movie and Hercules: The Animated Series. She also voiced Bubbie the whale in The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.

Other voice roles include Ms. Fitzpatrick in Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil and Witch Lezah in The Looney Tunes Show. She also voiced Cake the cat in several Adventure Time episodes and the spin-off series Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake.

Roz Ryan has also been in movies like I Think I Love My Wife, The Invention of Lying, and Waiting for Forever. She also starred in TVOne's The Rickey Smiley Show.
