Russell Edward Mitchell (born March 25, 1960) is an American journalist. He is famous for his work at CBS news. He was an anchor for The Early Show and the weekend CBS Evening News.
In December 2011, Russ Mitchell announced he would leave CBS. He joined WKYC in Cleveland, Ohio, as a main anchor. He started this new role in January 2012.

Early Life and School
Russ Mitchell was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up in a place called Rock Hill. He went to high school in Webster Groves. After high school, he studied at the University of Missouri. He earned a degree in journalism in 1982.
Russ Mitchell's TV Journey
Russ Mitchell started working in TV when he was still in high school. He worked part-time at KTVI in St. Louis. After college, he became a reporter at KMBC in Kansas City.
He later worked as an anchor for WFAA in Dallas. He was also a reporter at KTVI again. Then he worked as a weekend anchor and reporter for KMOV in St. Louis.
In 1992, he joined CBS News. He became a co-anchor for Up to the Minute. He also reported for Eye to Eye. Russ Mitchell was an original co-anchor for the Saturday Early Show. He was also the news anchor for the weekday The Early Show. He anchored the weekend CBS Evening News for many years. He also reported for CBS News Sunday Morning.
In December 2011, Russ Mitchell moved to Cleveland. He became a lead anchor and executive editor at WKYC. He still works there today.
Personal Life
Russ Mitchell has been married. He married Erica Townsend in 1987. They later divorced. He also married Karina Mahtani in 2006. They also later divorced.
Awards and Achievements
Russ Mitchell has won many awards for his journalism. He has won a total of 17 Emmy Awards. These awards are very important in television.

- 1989: Missouri UPI, Best Reporter award.
- 1995: National Association of Black Journalists Award.
- 1997: Emmy Award, for his reporting on the crash of TWA's flight 800.
- 2001: Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi Award. This was for the CBS Evening News coverage of the Elian Gonzales story.
- 2005: New York Association of Black Journalists Award, Best Documentary. This was for a report on Stax Records.
- 2006: Press Club of Metropolitan St. Louis Media Person of the Year.
