The rusty-backed monjita (Neoxolmis rubetra) is a cool bird that lives in Argentina. It's part of the Tyrannidae family, which includes many types of flycatchers. This bird is special because it's endemic to Argentina, meaning it's only found there!
You can find the rusty-backed monjita in dry areas. It likes places with lots of shrubland (bushes and small trees) and open fields like pastureland.
Bird Family Tree: Taxonomy
Scientists group living things into categories to understand them better. This is called taxonomy. The rusty-backed monjita used to be in a group called Xolmis.
New Discoveries Change Classifications
In 2020, scientists did a special study. They looked closely at the birds' DNA to see how they are related. This type of study is called a molecular phylogenetic study.
Because of what they learned, the rusty-backed monjita and two other bird species were moved. They now belong to a different group, or genus, called Neoxolmis. This shows how science is always learning new things!
