Rusty Farley (born September 25, 1953, died July 4, 2011) was an American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party. He served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives for District 1. This district covers most of McCurtain County in southeastern Oklahoma.
Rusty Farley's Political Career
Before becoming a state representative, Rusty Farley was part of the Haworth school board for 18 years. In 2008, he tried to become a state representative but lost to Dennis Bailey.
Winning the Election
In 2010, Mr. Farley ran for the same seat again. He didn't have any opponents in the first round of voting (called the 'primary'). Then, he ran against Dennis Bailey again.
Even though most people in District 1 were registered Democrats, Rusty Farley won! This was a big surprise. What made it even more surprising was how little money he spent. He only raised $170 and used just $70 for one newspaper ad.
His Passing
Rusty Farley passed away on July 4, 2011, at the age of 57. He died in a hospital in Paris, Texas, from a pulmonary embolism. This is a serious condition where a blood clot blocks an artery in the lungs.
