Ryan Bell is a Canadian basketball player who retired from the sport. He was born on April 17, 1984. Ryan comes from Orleans, Ontario, which is a community near Ottawa. He played as a guard, a position in basketball often responsible for bringing the ball up the court and setting up plays. His last team was Espoon Honka in Finland.
Ryan's College Basketball Journey
Ryan Bell was a star player for the Carleton University Ravens. While playing for them, he helped his team win an amazing four national championships. These big wins happened in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. This means they were the best college basketball team in Canada for four years in a row! Ryan studied sociology at Carleton University. Before attending Carleton, he went to Colonel By Secondary School.
Playing for Team Canada
In 2006, Ryan Bell joined the Canada national men's basketball team. This is a huge honor, as it means he was one of the best players in the country. He proudly represented Canada in two major international events. He played in the 2007 Pan American Games and also in the FIBA Americas Championship 2007. At the 2007 Pan American Games, some of his teammates from Carleton University, Osvaldo Jeanty and Aaron Doornekamp, were also on the Canadian team. Their assistant coach, Dave Smart, was there too.
Professional Career and Family
After his successful college career, Ryan Bell played professional basketball. He played for FC Schalke 04 Basketball during the 2008-2009 season. Later, he joined Espoon Honka in Finland for the 2009-2010 season. Ryan retired from playing basketball in 2010. Interestingly, Ryan Bell is related to another professional athlete. He is a cousin of Jamar Dixon, who is a professional soccer player.
