Later that year, he and former Panic! bassist Jon Walker started a new band called The Young Veins. In this band, Ross was the lead singer and guitarist.

Ryan Ross's Early Life and Music

How Ryan Started in Music

Ryan Ross was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. When he was 12, he got a guitar for Christmas. He started playing music with his best friend, Spencer Smith, who had a drum set.

Ryan and Spencer mostly played songs by the band Blink-182. Ryan was the singer. Their first band was called Pet Salamander. Ryan wrote his first song when he was 14 years old.

Later, they teamed up with Brent Wilson and another friend named Trevor Howell. They formed a band called "Summer League." After that, they met Brendon Urie and created the band Panic! at the Disco.

Ryan Ross and Spencer Smith officially formed Panic! at the Disco in 2004. Brent Wilson and Brendon Urie joined them. The band's first album was called A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. They recorded it from June to September 2005, and it came out on September 27, 2005.

After their first album became very popular, the band went back to the studio in October 2007. They recorded their second album, Pretty. Odd., which was released on March 25, 2008. The sound of this album was very different from their first one.

Pretty. Odd. was the last album Ryan Ross worked on fully with Panic! at the Disco. However, he did get a writing credit for the song "Nearly Witches (Ever Since We Met...)" on their third album, Vices & Virtues. This is because the song started before Ryan and Jon Walker left the band.

On July 13, 2009, Ryan Ross talked to MTV about leaving Panic! at the Disco. He said that the split had been planned for a while. He also mentioned that he and the other members of Panic! at the Disco were still good friends.

Ross told MTV that he and Jon Walker were writing and recording new songs very quickly. On July 28, 2009, their new band's name was announced as The Young Veins. They also released their first song, "Change," online.

On July 15, 2009, Ross explained to MTV that their new music would be more like early garage rock bands such as The Kinks. He said the songs would be shorter and faster. Unlike Pretty. Odd., their new album would not have a lot of orchestral music.

Ryan and Jon also recorded with help from Alex Greenwald from Phantom Planet. Eric Ronick, who used to play keyboards for Panic! at the Disco on tour, also helped.

The Young Veins signed with One Haven Music. Their first album, Take a Vacation!, was released on June 8, 2010. On December 10, 2010, The Young Veins announced they were taking a break.
