Music Career
The Story of Panic! at the Disco
In 2004, Urie's high school friend Brent Wilson asked him to join a new band, Panic! at the Disco, as a guitarist. At first, another member, Ryan Ross, was the lead singer. But when Urie sang during a practice, the other members were so impressed with his voice that they made him the new lead singer.
With Urie as the frontman, Panic! at the Disco released seven albums. Their first album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (2005), was a huge success. It included the hit single "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" and sold over 1.8 million copies. For their second album, Pretty. Odd. (2008), Urie started writing songs, including "I Have Friends in Holy Spaces" and "Folkin' Around."
After some band members left, the band released its third album, Vices & Virtues, in 2011. Their fourth album, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! (2013), was also a big hit, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. By 2015, other original members had left, making Urie the only official member of Panic! at the Disco.
On January 15, 2016, the band released its fifth album, Death of a Bachelor. It became the band's first number-one album. In 2018, the band released the album Pray for the Wicked, which included the popular song "Say Amen (Saturday Night)". The band's final album, Viva Las Vengeance, came out in 2022.
On January 24, 2023, Urie announced that Panic! at the Disco would end after their tour so he could focus on his family.
