Rylie is a neighborhood in the big city of Dallas, Texas. It used to be a small community that wasn't officially part of any city. Rylie is found in Dallas County. It sits between two major roads, Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 175. An old Southern Pacific Railroad line also runs nearby. Rylie is about 11 miles (18 km) southeast of Downtown Dallas. It's considered part of the Southeast Dallas area.

History of Rylie

Rylie began as land given to J. R. Rylie. He settled in this area around 1855. The community officially started by the 1870s.

Early Days and Growth

In 1881, a major railroad line was built through Rylie. This helped the community grow. A post office opened in 1883. By 1885, Rylie was a place where people shipped wood and cotton. At that time, about 25 people lived there. They had two churches, one school, and a general store.

The number of people living in Rylie grew over time. In 1900, there were 50 residents. By 1914, the population reached 64. Rylie also had a general store and telephone service by then.

Changes and Moving the Community

The population dropped to 30 by 1925. The post office closed around 1930. In that same year, the community moved. It moved from its spot near the railroad. The new location was along U.S. Highway 175. This new spot was about 0.25 miles (0.40 km) northeast of the old one.

By the late 1940s, Rylie started growing again. The population increased to 180 people. The community also had eight businesses. This growth continued into the 1960s. In 1965, Rylie had 950 residents. This was the last time its population was officially recorded in the Texas Almanac.
