Ryosuke Okuno (born 13 November 1968) is a Japanese football player and manager. He was born in Kyoto, Japan. He played as a defender, which means he helped protect his team's goal. After his playing career, he became a football coach and manager.

Playing Football

Ryosuke Okuno started his professional football journey after finishing university. In 1993, he joined a team called Kashima Antlers. He played as a center back, a key defensive position, for many years. He often played alongside another strong defender, Yutaka Akita.

During his time with Kashima Antlers, the team had a very successful period. They won the J1 League championship in 1996 and 1998. They also won the J.League Cup in 1997 and the Emperor's Cup in 1997.

In 2000, Ryosuke Okuno moved to Kawasaki Frontale, a team that had just moved up to the J1 League. Even though his new team finished last in the league that year, they did well in the J.League Cup, finishing in second place. In 2001, he played for Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

His last stop as a player was with Thespa Kusatsu in 2002. Here, he took on a special role: he was a playing manager. This meant he played on the team while also being their coach. The team improved a lot under his leadership. They moved up to higher leagues in 2003 and 2004. Ryosuke Okuno retired from playing football at the end of the 2003 season.

Coaching Teams

After retiring as a player, Ryosuke Okuno continued his career in football as a coach. He first coached Thespa Kusatsu as a playing manager from 2002 to 2003. He helped the team get promoted to higher leagues.

In 2004, he went back to his old club, Kashima Antlers, but this time as a coach. He was part of the coaching staff when the team won the J1 League championship three years in a row, from 2007 to 2009. This was a very successful period for the club.

Later, in 2012, he became the manager for Montedio Yamagata, a team in the J2 League. He managed this team until 2013. He also managed Thespa Kusatsu again from 2020 to 2021.
