SX3 is a fun TV channel from Catalonia, Spain. It is owned by Televisió de Catalunya. The channel mostly broadcasts in the Catalan language. It started broadcasting on October 18, 2009. Before 2022, it was known as Super3.

SX3 shows programs for kids and teenagers. It is based on a popular TV show called Club Super3. This show first started on February 11, 1991, on another channel called TV3.

Unlike its older version, K3, SX3 focuses on shows for viewers under 14 years old. You can watch a mix of live-action shows and cartoons from many countries, including Japan. All shows are in Catalan.

The channel's schedule mixes programs for different age groups. You might see shows for preschoolers, older kids, and teenagers throughout the day.

SX3 broadcasts on regular TV (called DTT) from 6 AM to 9:55 PM. It shares its TV channel with El 33, which shows cultural programs. However, you can watch SX3 online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Some shows are only available online. This is because the channel wants people to watch more content online. SX3 took the place of the old K3 channel.

The fan club for Super3 has more than 1.5 million members. That's a lot of fans! The channel officially changed its name to SX3 on October 10, 2022.

How SX3 Started

The Beginning of Club Super3

The idea for Club Super3 began on February 11, 1991. It started as a special block of children's shows on TV3. Later, these shows also appeared on Canal 33. As more and more time was given to kids' programs, the TV company decided to make some changes.

Launching K3 Channel

On April 23, 2001, a new channel called K3 began broadcasting. It shared its time with Canal 33. This meant K3 would show kids' programs for part of the day.

Changes in Broadcasting

In December 2006, K3 changed its look. Its digital channel started sharing time with Canal 300. This allowed El 33 to broadcast all day on digital TV. The older, analog version of K3 still shared time with El 33.

Becoming Canal Super3

The big "Festa dels Súpers" event in 2009 led to K3 changing its name to Canal Super3. This helped to connect the channel more closely with the popular Club Super3 brand. The new channel wanted to focus on teaching English and interacting with its viewers. Kids could send in their drawings or show their pets on TV. The channel stopped broadcasting on old analog TV on February 15, 2010. After that, El 33 used those old channels all day.

Challenges and New Ideas

From the late 2010s, the channel started to lose some viewers. In October 2019, it had its lowest number of viewers ever. The TV company faced challenges with ratings and money. They began to think of new ways to keep the brand popular. In June 2021, they stopped making the show La família dels Súpers.

Many kids were no longer watching traditional TV. This made it harder to buy new shows. So, the channel decided to focus on a "digital-first" plan. This means they wanted to offer more content online. They wanted to make sure kids could still watch shows in Catalan on all platforms.

The Rebrand to SX3

In September 2022, the CCMA (the company that runs the channel) announced a big change. The channel would be rebranded as SX3. It would have two main parts:

  • S3: For younger kids, like preschoolers.
  • X3: For school-aged kids and preteens.

The channel now broadcasts online 24/7. However, on regular TV, it still shares its time with El 33 after 9:55 PM.
