Sa Talaiassa (which sounds like "sa ta-la-YAS-sa") is the highest mountain on the island of Ibiza. Ibiza is one of the Balearic Islands in Spain. This mountain is located in the southwest part of the island.
The name Talaia means "watchtower" in the Catalan language. Talaiassa means a very large watchtower. This name makes sense because from the top of the mountain, you can see far across the land and sea, just like from a watchtower.
The largest town on the island, Sant Josep de sa Talaia, is named after this mountain.
Aviation Accident
In 1972, a plane from Iberia had an accident near Sa Talaiassa.
