Saalim Abdul Hakim, born on February 1, 1990, is a former American football player. He used to play as a wide receiver. He joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2012 after not being picked in the main draft. Saalim played college football at Palomar College and Tarleton State. His older brother, Az-Zahir Hakim, also played in the NFL as a wide receiver.

Early Football Days

Saalim Hakim did not start playing organized football until his last year of high school. For his first three years of high school, he attended a Muslim school in Atlanta that did not have a football team. He then moved to Palo Verde High School in Nevada.

After high school, he played college football at Palomar College in California. Later, he earned a scholarship to play for Tarleton State University in Texas. Saalim played one season as a reserve player at Tarleton State before moving on to play professionally.

Professional Football Career

Playing for the Las Vegas Locomotives

In 2011, Saalim Hakim played for the Las Vegas Locomotives in the United Football League. He played in four games. During these games, he caught 3 passes for 81 yards and scored one touchdown.

Time with the Dallas Cowboys

On April 30, 2012, Hakim signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He joined them as an undrafted free agent, meaning he was not chosen in the main NFL draft. Saalim missed two weeks of training camp because of a finger injury. He was released by the team before the regular season began.

Joining the St. Louis Rams

On November 7, 2012, Hakim signed with the St. Louis Rams.

Playing for the New Orleans Saints

On December 18, 2012, Saalim Hakim was moved from the practice squad to the main team roster for the New Orleans Saints. This happened after another player, Corey White, was injured. On August 31, 2013, Hakim was released from the Saints.

With the New York Jets

On October 10, 2013, Hakim signed with the New York Jets to join their practice squad. On December 13, he was moved to the Jets' main roster. This happened after receiver Stephen Hill had a season-ending injury.

On October 26, 2014, Hakim made a great play against Buffalo Bills rookie receiver Sammy Watkins. Watkins had slowed down while running towards the endzone to celebrate. Hakim made a diving tackle, stopping Watkins at the five-yard line after he had gained 84 yards. On August 29, 2015, Hakim was one of twelve players cut by the Jets.

Briefly with the Detroit Lions

On September 8, 2015, Hakim was signed to the Detroit Lions' practice squad. He was released from the practice squad on September 17.

With the Kansas City Chiefs

On October 13, 2015, Hakim signed with the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad. On November 9, he was moved to the active roster. On November 28, Hakim was waived, meaning he was released.

Time with the Cleveland Browns

Hakim signed with the Cleveland Browns on April 25, 2016. He was released by the team on May 2.

Personal Life

Saalim's brother, Az-Zahir Hakim, was also an NFL wide receiver. Az-Zahir was picked by the St. Louis Rams in the 1998 NFL draft. Saalim Hakim is a devoted Muslim and prays five times each day.
