Sabino Fernández Campo, 1st Count of Latores facts for kids

Sabino Fernández Campo, 1st Count of Latores (born March 17, 1918, in Oviedo; died October 26, 2009, in Madrid) was an important Spanish official. He worked for King Juan Carlos I as the head of the Royal Household of Spain from 1990 to 1993. He also played a key role during a failed attempt to overthrow the government in 1981, known as 23-F.
During the Spanish Civil War, he joined a group called the Falangists. They fought against the Republicans. Later, in 1959, he became a military assistant to Francisco Franco, who was the leader of Spain at that time.
On April 30, 1992, King Juan Carlos I gave Sabino Fernández Campo a special honor. He was made a member of the Spanish nobility. He received the title conde de Latores, which means Count of Latores in English. This title could be passed down to his children. He also received the important title of Grande de España. After he passed away in 2009, his daughter, María Elena Fernández, inherited these titles.

Sabino Fernández Campo received many important awards for his service. One of the highest honors he received was:
