Sabrina Island is the biggest of three small islands. It lies about 1.5 kilometers (almost 1 mile) south of Buckle Island. Both islands are part of the Balleny Islands in Antarctica.

A group of explorers led by John Balleny found these islands in 1839. Sabrina Island got its name from Thomas Freeman's small ship, which was called the Sabrina. Near the southern tip of Sabrina Island, there are two smaller islands known as The Monolith.

Wildlife on Sabrina Island

Sabrina Island is very special for its environment and science. It's a great example of the Balleny Islands. These islands are the only group of islands in the ocean that are inside the main Antarctic Coastal Current. This current brings cold water and food, which helps many animals live there.

Amazing Seabirds

Sabrina Island is a very important place for many seabirds to have their babies. It is a breeding site for two types of penguins:

Another bird that nests here is the Cape petrel. These birds come to the island to lay their eggs and raise their young.

Protecting the Island

Because Sabrina Island is so important for wildlife, it is a protected area. It is part of the Antarctic Treaty System. This system helps to protect Antarctica's environment and wildlife. Sabrina Island is known as Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA) No. 104. This means special rules are in place to keep the island safe for its animals and natural features.
