Sabrina Washington's Journey

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Sabrina Washington was born in Harlesden, London, on October 27, 1978. Her father was a reggae musician. This meant she grew up surrounded by music, which helped her start her own musical journey.

Mis-Teeq: The Girl Group

Sabrina's music career began in 1999. She met Alesha Dixon at a dance school called Dance Attic in west London. They started as a duo. In 2000, they met Su-Elise Nash during auditions, and the three formed a trio.

Later, Zena McNally joined them, and they became the girl group Mis-Teeq. They signed with Inferno Records. Their first song was "Why?". After this song came out, Zena McNally left the group to start her own solo career. Mis-Teeq then signed a new record deal with Telstar Records.

A music writer named Ed Nimmervoll said that Mis-Teeq became very popular in Britain in 2000 with "Why?". The song was first an R&B tune, but a remix by Matt Jam Lamont made it a huge hit in the underground garage music scene and on the radio. Mis-Teeq became known for mixing R&B, garage, and rap, calling their style "U.K. Urban."

While Sabrina was part of Mis-Teeq, the group had seven songs that reached the top 10 in the UK. They also released two albums that sold over two million copies each, earning "double platinum" status. Mis-Teeq was nominated for four Brit Awards. Overall, Sabrina, as part of Mis-Teeq, sold more than 12 million records around the world.

In the United States, Mis-Teeq had two songs that reached the top 5 on the US Billboard Dance Charts. "One Night Stand" reached number 4, and "Scandalous" reached number 2. Their album, also called Mis-Teeq, reached number 4 on the US Heatseekers charts. They also won a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Best R&B/Soul Album.

First Album: Lickin' on Both Sides

Sabrina, Alesha, and Su-Elise released their first album, Lickin' on Both Sides, in 2001. This album included popular songs like "All I Want," "One Night Stand," "B with Me," and "Roll On / This Is How We Do It." The album sold over 600,000 copies in the UK and became a double platinum success.

Their third song, "One Night Stand," became a hit internationally. It reached number 5 in the UK and number 4 on the US Dance Club Charts. It also made it into the top 20 in Australia, New Zealand, and several European countries.

In 2002, their fourth song, "B with Me," also reached number 5 in the UK. The last song from Lickin' on Both Sides was a double A-side with "Roll On" and a cover of Montell Jordan's song "This Is How We Do It." This song was also in the movie Ali G Indahouse. It reached number 7 in the charts.

Mis-Teeq also toured with Shaggy in the UK in 2002. They performed at the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebration with Ricky Martin.

Second Album: Eye Candy and Group Split

After a short break, Mis-Teeq released their second album, Eye Candy, on March 29, 2003. This album reached number 6 on the UK Albums Chart and also earned a platinum award.

The first song from Eye Candy was "Scandalous." This became the group's most successful song. It reached number 2 in the UK and the US. It was also a top 10 hit in Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, and many other countries.

In June 2003, the album's second song, "Can't Get It Back," became the group's seventh and last top 10 song in the UK, reaching number 8.

"Scandalous" was released in the United States in May 2004. It reached number 2 on the US Dance Single Sales chart and number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was used as the theme for the movie Catwoman (starring Halle Berry) in 2004. It was also used in Armani perfume commercials and was a main song in the video game Grand Theft Auto V.

Mis-Teeq announced they were splitting up in 2005. They released a Greatest Hits album, which included a new song, a cover of "Shoo Shoo Baby." In 2005, they won a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Best R&B/Soul Album.

Solo Career and TV Appearances

After Mis-Teeq broke up, Sabrina became a TV personality. In 2008, she won Celebrity Scissorhands, a show where celebrities learn to cut hair. In 2009, she was a contestant on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, a reality show where celebrities live in a jungle. She was one of the last women left, finishing in sixth place.

In April 2010, Sabrina Washington released her first solo song, "OMG (Oh My Gosh)." This song became a number 1 hit in Poland and was popular across Europe. In 2012, she started her own record label called Swash Music. Through her label, she released "Hit it Hard" and "Make It Hot." Both of these songs also reached number 1 in Poland and other parts of Europe.

After taking a break from music, Sabrina returned in October 2019. She released two new songs called "Gone" and "My Life." "My Life" was first played on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

In October 2019, she also appeared on the TV show "Don't Hate the Playaz." This show made British TV history because it was the first time a British prime-time show had a full panel of black women.

Sabrina has also started her own homeware brand called Home by SW.
