The name "Sabritas" is used in Mexico, just like "Lay's" is used in many other countries. For example, they are called Margaritas in Colombia and Walkers in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The Story of Sabritas

Sabritas started way back in 1943. A person named Pedro Antonio Marcos Noriega founded it in Mexico City. Back then, the company was called Golosinas y Productos Selectos. They made and sold potato chips, corn chips, and other snacks. They even delivered them mostly by bicycle!

The name "Sabritas" is a mix of two Spanish words: Sabrosas and Fritas. This means "Tasty and Fried" or "Fried ones."

In 1966, something big happened. A year after Frito-Lay and Pepsi-Cola Company joined together to form PepsiCo, Sabritas became part of PepsiCo. After this, Sabritas started using more modern ways to make snacks. They also grew their network of stores where their snacks were sold.

Around the year 2000, Sabritas made some taco shells for another company. These taco shells accidentally had a special type of corn in them. This corn was not approved for people to eat. The company quickly removed these taco shells from stores once the special corn was found.

Sabritas Today

Today, Sabritas is the brand PepsiCo uses for many of its snacks in Mexico. This includes popular snacks like Cheetos, Fritos, Doritos, and Ruffles. Sabritas also has its own line of potato chips.

Sometimes, every bag of Sabritas snacks comes with fun plastic toys called Tazos. These are like POGS that some people might know from the U.S. Sabritas also makes several local Mexican snacks. These include Crujitos, Poffets, Rancheritos, and Sabritones.

Sabritas sells most of the snacks in Mexico. They control about 80% of the Mexican snack market. Their main competitor is a company called Barcel, which is part of Grupo Bimbo. Barcel has about 12% of the market.

Alegro Internacional and Sonric's

In 1982, during a time when the economy was difficult, Sabritas created a new brand called Sonric's. This was a way to offer more products, especially candies. It also helped when people had less money to spend on snacks.

The Sonric's brand is well-known because of its fun mascot. The mascot is a wizard called El Maguito Sonrics, and kids really like him!

Sonric's became very successful. It grew so much that it started making products that weren't just candy, like drink mixes and flavored water. Because of this, PepsiCo decided to create a new division called Alegro Internacional. This new division was made to handle these different types of products.
