Early Life and Family
Sackville Hamilton was born on March 14, 1732. He was the third of seven children. His parents were Mary Dawson and Henry Hamilton, who was also a politician. Henry Hamilton worked as a tax collector for the Port of Cork.
Sackville's younger brother was Henry Hamilton. This brother later became a governor in places like Bermuda and Dominica. Sackville came from a family with a long history in politics. His grandfather was Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne.
Political Career
Sackville Hamilton began his political journey in 1780. He became a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called St Johnstown (County Longford). He served there until 1783.
After that, he was elected for two other areas: Rathcormack and Clogher. He chose to represent Clogher and stayed as an MP for that area until 1795.
In 1795, he took on a special role called Escheator of Munster. This was a way for him to officially leave his seat in Parliament. The next year, in 1796, he successfully became an MP again for Armagh Borough. He held this position until 1798.
Key Government Roles
In 1780, Sackville Hamilton was given an important job. He became the Under-Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. The Lord Lieutenant was like the King's representative in Ireland. Sackville held this role for a long time, until February 1795. He then took on the role again from May 1795 to 1796. In 1796, he was officially made a member of the Privy Council of Ireland. This meant he was a trusted advisor to the government.

Catherine was married to the famous military leader Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington.
