The Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral, also known as the Ecatepec Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús), is a very important Catholic church in Mexico. It is the main church for the Diocese of Ecatepec. This beautiful building is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. You can find it in the city of Ecatepec, which is in the State of Mexico.
About the Sacred Heart Cathedral
The construction of the cathedral began on January 6, 1998. It was officially opened in March 1999. You can find it in the San Cristóbal neighborhood.
Unique Design
The cathedral has a modern design. It looks a bit like the famous Basilica of Guadalupe. Its shape is meant to remind people of a tent. This design symbolizes a gathering place for people on a journey, like pilgrims.
What Happens There
More than 70 other churches are connected to this main cathedral through the Diocese of Ecatepec. On Sundays, like in all Catholic churches, special services called Masses are held. These services often include music from groups like the Sabath music ministry. Sometimes, even Mariachi bands play, which adds a fun, traditional Mexican touch to the religious event.
