Sadia Dehlvi (born in 1957, died on August 5, 2020) was a well-known writer, activist, and newspaper columnist from Delhi, India. She wrote for the Hindustan Times and Frontline. Her articles also appeared in Urdu, Hindi, and English magazines and newspapers.

Sadia Dehlvi was a follower of Sufi saints like Khwaja Gharib Nawaz and Nizamuddin Auliya. She believed in a kind and open understanding of Islam. She also created and wrote for TV shows and documentaries, including Amma and Family (1995), which starred the famous actress Zohra Sehgal.

About Sadia Dehlvi

Sadia Dehlvi was born in Delhi in 1957. Her family lived in a place called Shama Kothi, which was once a very important cultural center in Delhi. Today, this building is used as the headquarters for a political party.

In 2009, Sadia Dehlvi published her first book, Sufism: The Heart of Islam. This book was about the peaceful traditions of Sufism. Her second book, The Sufi Courtyard: Dargahs of Delhi, came out in 2012. It explored the history of Sufism in Delhi.

She also worked as an editor for Bano, a magazine for women written in Urdu. This magazine was part of the Shama Group, which also published Shama, a popular Urdu magazine about literature and films. The Shama Group magazines stopped publishing in 1999.

Sadia Dehlvi passed away on August 5, 2020.

Her Family Life

Sadia Dehlvi married Reza Pervaiz in 1990. They lived in Karachi, Pakistan, and had a son named Armaan in 1992. Their marriage lasted for 12 years and ended in a divorce.

Later, she married Sayyed Karamat Ali. She met him at a Sufi shrine in Delhi that she had visited for many years. She was proud to be known as Sadia Sayyed Karamat Ali.
