Saidy Janko, born on October 22, 1995, is a professional football player. He plays as a right-back for the Swiss club BSC Young Boys. Saidy was born in Switzerland. He played for Switzerland's youth teams. Later, he chose to play for the Gambia national team as an adult.

Janko started his football journey with FC Zürich. In 2013, he joined the famous English club Manchester United. After playing on loan for Bolton Wanderers, Janko moved to the Scottish club Celtic in 2015. He also played on loan for Barnsley before joining Saint-Étienne in France in 2017.

Starting at Manchester United

Saidy Janko began his football career at FC Zürich in Switzerland. He then joined Manchester United on the last day of the summer transfer window in 2013. He was one of only three players signed by manager David Moyes that summer.

In his first season, Janko was named the Reserve Player of the Year. This award showed how well he was playing. On August 26, 2014, he played his first game for the main team. This was a League Cup match against Milton Keynes Dons. He played the first half of the game. Manchester United lost the match 4–0.

Loan to Bolton Wanderers

On February 2, 2015, Janko joined Bolton Wanderers. This was a loan move for the rest of the season. Bolton Wanderers is a club in the Championship, which is England's second-highest league.

He played his first game for Bolton on February 10. It was a 3–1 league win against Fulham. Janko helped his team score a goal. He then scored a goal himself from 25 yards out.

Playing for Celtic

On July 1, 2015, Celtic announced that they had signed Janko. He signed a contract to play for them for four years. Celtic is a very well-known club in Scotland.

He played his first game for Celtic nine days later. It was a friendly match against Real Sociedad. Janko made his official debut on August 1. He came on as a substitute in Celtic's 2–0 win against Ross County. This was the first league match of the 2015–16 Scottish Premiership season.

Loan to Barnsley

On August 31, 2016, Janko moved to Barnsley on a one-year loan. Barnsley is another club in the Championship. He scored a goal in his first game for Barnsley. This was a 4–0 away win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on September 13.

Moving to Saint-Étienne

On July 7, 2017, Janko left Celtic. He joined the French club Saint-Étienne. This club plays in Ligue 1, France's top football league. He signed a four-year contract with them.

Time at Porto

Janko then moved to the Portuguese club FC Porto. He signed a five-year contract on June 17, 2018. Porto is a very successful club in Portugal.

Loan to Nottingham Forest

On August 31, 2018, Janko returned to England. He joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the 2018–19 season. This club also plays in the EFL Championship.

Loan to Young Boys

On July 1, 2019, Janko played football in his home country, Switzerland, for the first time in his career. He was loaned to Young Boys for the Swiss Super League season. He scored his first goal for them on September 14. This was in an 11–2 win in the Swiss Cup. Saidy played 46 official matches for Young Boys. They won both the Super League and the Cup that season.

Playing for Real Valladolid

On October 1, 2020, Real Valladolid signed Janko. This Spanish club signed him on a four-year contract. He made his first appearance in La Liga, Spain's top league, 24 days later. It was a 2–0 home loss to Deportivo Alavés.

Loan to VfL Bochum

On June 27, 2022, VfL Bochum announced that Janko would join them. This was a loan for one season. Bochum is a club in Germany's Bundesliga.

Returning to Young Boys

On June 30, 2023, Real Valladolid announced that Janko had joined Swiss side Young Boys permanently. He had played for Young Boys before on loan.

Saidy Janko's International Career

Saidy Janko was born in Zürich, Switzerland. His father is from Gambia, and his mother is from Italy. He played for Switzerland's youth teams from 2012 to 2015.

In 2021, he decided to play for the Gambia. He made his first game for Gambia on October 9, 2021. It was a friendly match against Sierra Leone.

He also played in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. This was the first time Gambia's national team played in this big tournament. They did very well and reached the quarter-finals.
