Saint-Acheul (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃t‿aʃœl]) is a small village, also known as a commune, located in northern France. It is part of the Somme area, which is a department in the Hauts-de-France region.
It is important not to confuse this village with a different place also called Saint-Acheul, which is a part of the city of Amiens. The famous Acheulean period, a very old part of the Lower Paleolithic Stone Age, was named after the Saint-Acheul near Amiens, not this village. The Acheulean period is known for early human tools like hand axes.

History of Saint-Acheul
The area around Saint-Acheul has a long history. Around the first century AD, which was about 2,000 years ago, the ancient Romans settled in this region. Later, during the Middle Ages (from about 500 AD to 1500 AD), a monastery was built in Saint-Acheul.
The village's name honors Saint Acheolus. He was an important religious figure who was martyred, meaning he died for his beliefs, in Amiens around the year 290 AD. Another important person, Saint Ulphia, lived as a hermit in this area during the 8th century. A hermit is someone who lives alone, often for religious reasons.
