Saint-Gabriel-Brécy was a small French village, also known as a commune. It was located in the region called Basse-Normandie, which is in the Calvados department in the northwest of France.

On January 1, 2017, Saint-Gabriel-Brécy joined with other nearby villages to form a new, larger commune named Creully sur Seulles. This means Saint-Gabriel-Brécy no longer exists as a separate commune.

About Saint-Gabriel-Brécy

Saint-Gabriel-Brécy was a quiet place with a small population. In 2008, about 301 people lived there. The village was known for its historic buildings, especially the former Saint-Gabriel Priory.

Location and Geography

Saint-Gabriel-Brécy was situated in the Calvados department. This area is known for its beautiful countryside and historical sites. The village was part of the Caen arrondissement and the Creully canton. These are ways France organizes its local areas.

The village was located at an elevation of about 50 meters (164 feet) above sea level. Its lowest point was 10 meters (33 feet), and its highest point was 63 meters (207 feet). The total area of the commune was 7.44 square kilometers (2.87 square miles).

Local Government

Before it merged, Saint-Gabriel-Brécy had its own local government. The Mayor was Pierre Feral, who served from 2008 to 2014. The mayor is like the head of the village, responsible for its daily operations and services. The commune was also part of an intercommunality group called Orival, which means it worked with other nearby villages on shared projects.

The Merger of Communes

On January 1, 2017, Saint-Gabriel-Brécy became part of a new, larger commune called Creully sur Seulles. This happened because several small communes decided to join together. Merging communes can help them share resources, manage services more efficiently, and have a stronger voice in regional matters. Even though Saint-Gabriel-Brécy is no longer a separate commune, its history and identity are now part of the larger Creully sur Seulles.
