Saint Anthony the Abbot Seminary facts for kids
The Saint Anthony the Abbot Seminary (which in Spanish is called Seminario de San Antonio Abad) is a special school in Cuzco, Peru. This school helps prepare people to become priests for the Archdiocese of Cuzco. An archdiocese is like a large church area.
The seminary is very old, started in 1598. This makes it one of the oldest schools of its kind in the Americas. It is named after a famous saint, Saint Anthony the Abbot.
A Long History of Changes
Over the years, the seminary has seen many changes. In 1899, a group from Spain visited the school. They wanted to make changes to how the school was run. This was part of a bigger plan to update things.
Later, when Augusto B. Leguía was the president of Peru, more changes happened. His government wanted the seminary to become more "Americanized." This meant making it more like schools in the Americas, rather than strictly following old European ways. These changes helped the seminary adapt to modern times.
