Salamonia is a small town located in Madison Township, within Jay County, Indiana, United States. It is situated along the Salamonie River, which starts nearby in northern Indiana. In 2020, the town had a population of 151 people.

A Look Back: Salamonia's History

Salamonia was first planned out in 1839. Back then, it had a different name: Lancaster.

When the town got its first post office, people realized there was already another place called Lancaster in Indiana. To avoid confusion, the town was renamed Salamonia. This new name came from the nearby Salamonie River.

Salamonia officially became a town in 1867. This meant it could have its own local government and make decisions for its residents.
