Salavat Magomedovich Salavatov (born May 21, 1922, in Buynaksk; died July 5, 2005, in Moscow) was a very talented artist. He was known for painting beautiful landscapes and illustrating books. He was from Russia and the Soviet Union. Salavatov earned important titles like Honored Artist of the RSFSR and People's Artist of Dagestan. These titles show how much his art was respected. He drew pictures for over 100 books, making stories come alive. After he passed away, an art gallery in a Moscow school was named after him in 2006. In 2017, a special memorial plaque was placed in Makhachkala to remember him.

About Salavat Salavatov's Life

Salavat Salavatov was born in Buynaksk, a city in Dagestan. When he was a student, he loved art. He went to an art studio at the House of Art Education for Children. Later, he studied art at another studio. This one was at the Ministry of Culture of Dagestan. His teacher there was Dmitry Kapanitsyn, a respected artist.

In 1936, one of his watercolor paintings was shown. It was called "From an aul Chirkey." This painting was displayed at an international exhibition of children's drawings. This was a big achievement for a young artist.

Salavatov also bravely fought in World War II. He was seriously injured while helping to free Donbass. After the war, starting in late 1944, he worked as a set designer. He created backgrounds for theaters, newspapers, and publishing houses in Dagestan.

From 1961 to 1967, Salavatov led the Artists' Union of Dagestan. This was an important group for artists. For his great work in art, he received the "Order of the Badge of Honour." He also earned the special titles "Honored Artist of the RSFSR" and "People's Artist of Dagestan."

Since 1950, Salavatov's art was shown in many places. He participated in all art exhibitions in Dagestan. His works were also part of bigger shows across Russia. He even had art in an international book exhibition in Berlin. Many of his watercolors and drawings are now in The Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts in Makhachkala. His art was displayed in famous cities around the world. These included Paris, Tokyo, Berlin, Moscow, and Saint Petersburg. He also had exhibitions in Makhachkala, Derbent, and Maykop. Salavat Salavatov passed away in Moscow on July 5, 2005.
