Sale Creek is a small community in northern Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP). This means it is a recognized place by the census bureau but does not have its own local government like a city or town.
Sale Creek is located along U.S. Route 27. It sits between the cities of Chattanooga and Dayton, Tennessee. In 2020, about 3,021 people lived in Sale Creek. The community is home to Sale Creek Middle/High School.
History of Sale Creek
The name "Sale Creek" comes from the creek that flows through the area. This creek got its name from an event that happened long ago. In 1779, during the Cherokee–American wars, a "sale" or auction of items took place along the creek's banks. These items were collected from nearby Native American settlements.
During the American Civil War, from September to December 1863, soldiers from the 6th Tennessee Infantry US were stationed in this area.
