Salinas de Garci Mendoza, once known as Salinas de Thunupa, is a town in Bolivia. It is located in the Oruro Department. This town is the main center for the Ladislao Cabrera Province.
The town is about 280 kilometers (174 miles) southwest of Oruro. Oruro is the capital city of the department. Salinas de Garci Mendoza sits very high up, at 3,732 meters (12,244 feet) above sea level. It is near a place called Caricha, which is even higher.
Salinas de Garci Mendoza is close to some amazing natural features. It is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the Tunupa volcano. Also nearby are two huge salt lakes. Salar de Coipasa is 20 kilometers (12 miles) to the northwest. Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat, is 15 kilometers (9 miles) to the southeast. A salt flat is a large area of flat land covered with salt.
You can reach Salinas de Garci Mendoza by road. The road connects it to Chuquichamba, Andamarca, and Aroma.
