Sally Anne Struthers (born July 28, 1947) is an American actress and activist. She is well-known for playing Gloria Stivic, the daughter of Archie and Edith Bunker in the popular TV show All in the Family. For this role, she won two Emmy Awards. She also played Babette on Gilmore Girls. Sally Struthers has lent her voice to many cartoon characters, including Charlene Sinclair on the ABC sitcom Dinosaurs, Pebbles Flintstone on The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, and Rebecca Cunningham on the Disney animated series TaleSpin.

Early Life and Family
Sally Anne Struthers was born on July 28, 1947, in Portland, Oregon. She is the second of two daughters born to Margaret Caroline and Robert Alden Struthers. She has an older sister named Sue. Her grandparents on her mother's side came from Norway.
Sally was raised by her single mother in northeast Portland. Her mother worked at the Bonneville Power Administration to support Sally and her sister.
Acting Career Highlights
Sally Struthers began her acting career in the 1970s. She appeared in the movie The Getaway in 1972, starring Steve McQueen.
Starring in All in the Family
Around the same time, Struthers started her famous role as Gloria Stivic on the sitcom All in the Family. The show's producer, Norman Lear, discovered her dancing on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
Sally Struthers won two Emmy Awards for her work on All in the Family, one in 1972 and another in 1979. She has shared that getting the role was a happy accident. She had just been let go from another show, which meant she was free to try out for All in the Family. If she hadn't been let go, she wouldn't have been available for the audition.
While she enjoyed her time on All in the Family, Struthers sometimes felt her character, Gloria, didn't change much. She even tried to leave the show at one point.
In 1977, she starred in the TV movie Intimate Strangers. This movie was one of the first on network television to focus on the serious issue of domestic violence.
Other Notable Roles
Sally Struthers continued to play Gloria Stivic in the spin-off show Gloria from 1982 to 1983. In this series, Gloria was a new divorcée working as an assistant at an animal clinic.
From 1985 to 1986, Struthers played Florence Ungar in the female version of The Odd Couple on stage. She also appeared regularly on Gilmore Girls as Babette Dell.

In 2014, Struthers toured in the 50th-anniversary production of Hello, Dolly!, playing the main character, Dolly Levi.
More recently, in 2024, Sally Struthers began playing Virginia Foldau in the Netflix series A Man on the Inside, which stars Ted Danson.
Activism and Other Work
Sally Struthers has been a spokesperson for ChildFund (formerly Christian Children's Fund). In this role, she spoke out to help children in need in developing countries.
She also appeared in television ads for the International Correspondence School (ICS), promoting their educational programs.
Personal Life
Sally Struthers married psychiatrist William C. Rader in Los Angeles on December 18, 1977. They had one child, a daughter named Samantha. The couple divorced on January 19, 1983.
