The Salted Nut Roll is a popular candy bar. It is made by the Pearson's Candy Company. This company is located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. You can find this tasty treat mostly in the Midwestern United States.
What's Inside a Salted Nut Roll?
A Salted Nut Roll has three main parts. It starts with a soft, chewy center. This center is called nougat. Around the nougat is a sticky layer of caramel. Finally, the whole bar is covered with lots of crunchy, salted Virginia peanuts.
Pearson's uses a special ingredient in their nougat. This makes the candy easier to digest for some people. Especially for those who are sensitive to dairy products.
Different Sizes and Flavors
Salted Nut Rolls come in various sizes. You can find them in small, medium, and large bars. Over the years, Pearson's has made special versions. These include chocolate-covered limited editions.
They also have other fun spin-off products. Some examples are the Salted Pecan Roll. Another version replaced the vanilla nougat with a caramel-flavored one. Seasonal flavors have included Spicy, Cinnamon Churro, Apple Pie, and Pumpkin Spice.
Pearson's also made a "thin" version of the bar. More recently, they introduced a peanut butter nougat version. This one is a partnership with the Skippy brand. There's also a cinnamon churro version. It uses cinnamon roasted peanuts. You can even find a snack mix version. It has peanuts, mini caramel cups, and vanilla nougat "drops."
The History of the Salted Nut Roll
The Salted Nut Roll was first made in 1933. This was during a tough time called the Great Depression. Another famous candy bar, the PayDay bar, came out just a year before.
When it first launched, many different nut roll candies were available. To stand out, Pearson's changed the name. They called it the Choo Choo Bar for a while. But later, they changed it back to Salted Nut Roll. This is the name we know today.
