Salthill (which is Bóthar na Trá in Irish) is a fun seaside area. It is part of the city of Galway in the west of Ireland. This popular spot attracts many visitors all year round.
Salthill is famous for its 2 km long walkway. This path is known by locals as the Prom. From here, you can see amazing views of Galway Bay. Along the Prom, you will find many places to eat, stay, and have fun.

Fun Things to Do in Salthill

Salthill is a great place for tourists. It used to host a big air show. The Salthill Air Show took place every June. Planes would fly over Galway Bay. This show brought in over 100,000 people. It also helped the local economy a lot.
In the 1970s, more fun places opened up. These included leisure centres. Salthill was also a key spot for big sailing races. It hosted parts of the 2008–09 Volvo Ocean Race. It also welcomed the Round-Ireland Powerboat race in 2010.
Christmas Day Swim Tradition
A special tradition happens every Christmas Day. People jump into the sea from Blackrock Diving Tower. This exciting event has become a fundraiser. It helps local charities in Galway. It's a brave and fun way to celebrate!

Gaelic Games
The local Gaelic Athletic Association club is called Salthill-Knocknacarra (SKGAA). They have teams for many Irish sports. These include Gaelic football, Ladies football, hurling, and camogie.
The club's senior men's team won a huge championship. They won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship in 2006. The ladies' junior football team also won a title in 2022. Pearse Stadium is a major sports ground in Salthill. It is one of the main stadiums for Galway GAA.
Football (Soccer)
Salthill Devon F.C. is the local football (soccer) team. They play in the Galway & District League. For a few years, they played in a national league. This was the League of Ireland First Division. Later, they joined with other teams. They helped form a new team called Galway F.C..
Tennis
The Galway Lawn Tennis Club is also in Salthill. It is located on Threadneedle Road. This club was named the Irish Tennis Club of the Year in 2002.
Getting Around Salthill
Salthill once had its own railway station. It opened in 1879. But it closed for passengers in 1918. The closest train station now is in Galway city.
Today, you can use the bus to get around. Bus Éireann route 401 runs from Salthill to Eyre Square. This is a main square in Galway city. Other regional buses also pass through Salthill. These buses can take you to places like Connemara.
