Samuel Clarence Williams (born October 13, 1922, died August 8, 2007) was a talented American baseball player. He was a pitcher in the Negro leagues from 1947 to 1952. These leagues were where African American players played before baseball was fully integrated.

Williams was born in Ketona, Alabama. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he began his professional baseball career.

Playing in the Negro Leagues

Sam Williams started his baseball journey in the Negro leagues. He joined the Birmingham Black Barons in 1947. This team was one of the most famous in the Negro leagues.

Key Moments with the Black Barons

In 1948, Williams played an important role for the Black Barons. He started Game 6 of the Negro American League championship series. This was a big game for his team. He pitched for 8.1 innings, showing his skill and endurance. Even though Birmingham lost that game, Williams's performance was notable.

He continued to play for the Black Barons until 1950. In 1951, he played baseball in Mexico. He then returned to the Black Barons in 1952. Later that season, he also played for the Brandon Greys in the Mandak League.

After his time in the Negro leagues, Sam Williams continued his baseball career. He played in the minor leagues for several teams.
