Samanta Tīna Poļakova (born 31 March 1989), known as Samanta Tīna, is a singer, songwriter, and composer from Latvia. She is famous for her powerful voice and for trying many times to represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Samanta Tīna tried to go to Eurovision seven times for Latvia. She also tried twice for Lithuania. In 2020, she finally won the Latvian national selection show Supernova. Her song was "Still Breathing". She was going to represent Latvia in Rotterdam, Netherlands. However, the contest was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this, she was chosen again to represent Latvia in 2021. She sang a new song called "The Moon Is Rising".

Samanta Tīna's Music Journey
Starting Out in Music
In 2010, Samanta Tīna won a Latvian music TV show called O!Kartes akadēmija. Her prize was a chance to study music in London, England. The next year, in 2011, she won the Moldovan singing competition Golden Voices. She also won the Moldovan Cup.
In 2012, Samanta Tīna took part in the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk contest. She sang a Latvian folk song and another song. She did very well, finishing in second place. This was a great achievement for her early career.
Trying for Eurovision
From 2012 to 2019, Samanta Tīna tried many times to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest. She often competed in the national selection shows like Eirodziesma and Dziesma. She often came very close to winning.
In 2012, she reached the superfinal of Eirodziesma with Dāvids Kalandija. They finished second. In 2013, she was a favorite to win Dziesma with her song "I Need a Hero". She again placed second in the superfinal. In 2014, she reached the superfinal of Dziesma once more, finishing third.
She also tried her luck in Lithuania's Eurovision selections. In 2013, she sang "Hey Chiki – Mama" with Vudis. In 2017, she performed "Tavo oda" with Tadas Rimgaila. These attempts did not lead to her representing Lithuania.
The Voice and Supernova
In 2014, Samanta Tīna joined the third season of Lietuvos balsas. This is the Lithuanian version of The Voice. Even though she is not Lithuanian, she spoke Russian to the judges. She sang "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" for her audition. She made it to the top eight contestants in the show.
She continued to try for Eurovision in Latvia's Supernova contest. In 2016, she entered with two songs. One song, "The Love Is Forever," made it to the semi-final. She later decided to leave the competition. In 2019, she competed in Supernova 2019 with "Cutting The Wire". She finished in seventh place.
Eurovision Song Contest
In late 2019, Samanta Tīna entered Supernova again with her song "Still Breathing". In February 2020, she won the competition! This meant she would finally represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam.
However, the contest was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Latvian TV company, LTV, then chose Samanta Tīna to represent Latvia again in 2021. She performed a new song called "The Moon Is Rising". Unfortunately, she did not make it to the Grand Final. She placed last in her semi-final.
Samanta Tīna's Life
Samanta Tīna has a mixed family background. She says her family has roots from Russia, Germany, Belarus, and Turkey. Even though her family spoke Russian at first, she and her sister learned to speak Latvian with their parents. She also dated Latvian singer Dāvids Kalandija.
