Samanta Tīna Poļakova (born March 31, 1989), known simply as Samanta Tīna, is a talented singer, songwriter, and composer from Latvia. She is famous for her powerful voice and her many attempts to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Samanta Tīna tried to get to Eurovision seven times for Latvia. She competed in the national selections in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2019. In 2020, she finally won the Latvian national show Supernova with her song "Still Breathing". She was set to represent Latvia at Eurovision 2020 in the Netherlands. However, the contest was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because of the cancellation, Samanta Tīna was chosen again to represent Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. She performed a new song called "The Moon Is Rising". She also competed in the Lithuanian national selections for Eurovision twice. Plus, she took part in the Lithuanian version of The Voice TV show.

Music Journey

Starting Out in Music

In 2010, Samanta Tīna won a Latvian music TV show called O!Kartes akadēmija. This win gave her an amazing chance to study at the Tech Music School in London, England. The next year, in 2011, she competed in a singing contest in Moldova called Golden Voices. She won the top prize, the Moldovan Cup.

In 2012, she joined the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk competition. She sang a Latvian folk song and another song, earning high scores. She ended up finishing in second place overall. This was a great achievement for her early career.

Eurovision Dreams: 2012–2014

Samanta Tīna first tried for Eurovision in 2012. She sang "I Want You Back" with Dāvids Kalandija in the Latvian selection, Eirodziesma. They made it to the final and finished in second place. She also sang another song, "For Father", but it did not reach the final.

In 2013, she tried again in the Latvian national final, now called Dziesma. Her song was "I Need a Hero". Many people thought she would win. She placed first in her semi-final and reached the superfinal. In the superfinal, she came in second place. That same year, she also competed in the Lithuanian Eurovision selection. She sang "Hey Chiki – Mama" with Vudis, but they were eliminated early.

She returned to Dziesma in 2014 with her song "Stay". She made it to the final and then to the superfinal. For the third time, she finished in third place in the superfinal.

The Voice in Lithuania

From 2014 to 2015, Samanta Tīna took part in the third season of Lietuvos balsas. This is the Lithuanian version of The Voice TV show. Even though she is not Lithuanian, she spoke Russian to the judges. For her first audition, she sang "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)". Later, she won a battle round singing "I'm Every Woman". Samanta Tīna made it to the top eight contestants in the competition.

More Eurovision Attempts: 2015–2019

In 2016, Samanta Tīna entered Supernova 2016 with two songs. Her song "We Live for Love" did not move past the first round. Her other song, "The Love Is Forever", made it to the semi-final. However, she decided to leave the competition before the final.

She also competed in Lithuania's national selection for Eurovision in 2017. She sang "Tavo oda" as a duet with Lithuanian singer Tadas Rimgaila. Their performance was eliminated in the first round.

Samanta Tīna tried again in Supernova 2019 with her song "Cutting The Wire". She reached the final and finished in seventh place.

Eurovision Song Contest: 2020–2021

In late 2019, Samanta Tīna submitted her song "Still Breathing" to Supernova. This is the Latvian show to pick their Eurovision entry. In January 2020, it was announced that her song was one of the top entries. She made it to the final on February 8, 2020. She won the competition and was chosen to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The contest was supposed to be in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the 2020 contest to be canceled. The Latvian TV broadcaster later confirmed that Samanta Tīna would represent Latvia again in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. She performed her new song, "The Moon Is Rising". Unfortunately, she did not make it to the Grand Final. It was later shared that she finished last in her semi-final, with 14 points.

Personal Life

Samanta Tīna has a mixed family background. She says she has Russian, German, Belarusian, and Turkish roots. Her father is ethnic Russian. Even though her family started out speaking Russian, she and her sister Sintija spoke Latvian with their parents. She also used to date Latvian singer Dāvids Kalandija.
