San Gabriel is a city in Ecuador. It is the main city of the San Gabriel parish. This area is part of Montúfar Canton in the Carchi Province.
The city and its surrounding parish are located high up in the Andes mountains. They are about 2,878 meters (9,442 feet) above sea level.
In 2010, about 14,487 people lived in the city of San Gabriel. The whole parish had a population of around 21,096 people that same year.
In 2019, San Gabriel received a special title: Pueblo Mágico. This means "Magical Town" in Spanish. The Ecuadorian Ministry of Tourism gave it this title. San Gabriel was one of the first five towns in Ecuador to be called a Pueblo Mágico.
