San Ignacio de Moxos, often called San Ignacio, is a town in the northern part of Bolivia. It's located in the Beni Department.

A Look Back in Time
San Ignacio de Moxos was started in 1689. Three Jesuit missionaries named Antonio de Orellana, Juan de Espejo, and Alvaro de Mendoza founded it. The town was first built about 20 miles south of where it is today.
Where San Ignacio is Located
San Ignacio is the main town of the Moxos Province. It sits about 144 meters (472 feet) above sea level. The town is next to Laguna Isiboro, a lake that covers 20 square kilometers (about 7.7 square miles). This lake is just west of the town. San Ignacio is also about 100 kilometers (62 miles) southwest of Trinidad, which is the capital city of the Beni Department.
Climate and Weather
San Ignacio de Moxos is in the wettest part of the Beni department. It's located where the Amazon rainforest meets the plains of western Santa Cruz and southwestern Beni. Even though San Ignacio de Moxos has a short dry season, it rains a lot all year. Temperatures are usually warm to hot. The area has a tropical monsoon climate, which is a type of weather pattern with heavy rainy seasons. It's almost like a tropical rainforest climate.

The number of people living in San Ignacio has grown over the years.
- In 1992, a census counted 4,832 people.
- By 2001, the population had grown to 9,064.
- In the 2012 census, there were 10,054 people living in the town.
Languages Spoken
The main language spoken in San Ignacio is Camba Spanish. This is a common language used by many people in the area. The main native language spoken is Ignaciano, which is a type of Moxo dialect.
