One of the most important buildings in San Joaquín is its beautiful church. It was built around the year 1880. Imagine this: every single rock used to build the church was carried all the way from Cartago. That's about 87 kilometers away! These rocks were brought by carts along what is now National Route 225.

Families in San Joaquín helped make the church grounds special. They donated the statues that you can see in the church gardens today. Inside the church, you'll find amazing paintings by a Spanish artist named Jose Claro. He also painted for another church in Colombia. The church even has a small cavern with a statue of the Lourdes Virgin. There are stone armchairs where you can sit and enjoy the garden flowers.
