San José Pinula is a town and a municipality in the country of Guatemala, located in Central America. It is part of the Guatemala Department. The town is about 21 kilometers (13 miles) away from Guatemala City, the capital. In 2018, about 79,844 people lived there.
The town of San José Pinula was officially started in 1886. It was first known as Villorio San José. The area is surrounded by beautiful mountains. For a long time, the main way people made a living was by growing crops like corn and vegetables. However, as Guatemala City has grown, much of the farmland has become new neighborhoods. Today, you can find world-class golf courses, like Hacienda Nueva Country Club, which used to be a very old convent.
