History of the Name

The name "Aznalfarache" has a long history. It comes from an old fortress. This fortress was called "Alfaraj" in Arabic. It means "the fortress of Alfaraj."

The Old Fortress

Historians believe the fortress was first built a very long time ago. It was likely built by the Umayyads. They were a powerful family who ruled parts of Spain. Later, in the 11th century, a famous ruler named Al-Mu'tamid ibn Abbad built a beautiful palace there. This palace made the site even more famous.
