San Juan de Aznalfarache is a town in southern Spain. It is part of the province of Seville. In 2018, about 21,195 people lived here.
Even though it is its own town, San Juan de Aznalfarache is very close to the big city of Seville. It sits on one side of the Guadalquivir river, right across from Seville.
Location and Connections
San Juan de Aznalfarache is like a neighbor to Seville. It is connected to Seville by two road bridges. There is also a special bridge just for people walking. These bridges link San Juan to the Triana area of Seville. Triana is a well-known part of the city.

San Juan de Aznalfarache is surrounded by other towns. To its north is Gelves. To the northeast, you will find Mairena del Aljarafe. And to the south is Tomares. All these towns are part of the larger Seville area.
History of the Name
The name "Aznalfarache" has a long history. It comes from an old fortress. This fortress was called "Alfaraj" in Arabic. It means "the fortress of Alfaraj."
The Old Fortress
Historians believe the fortress was first built a very long time ago. It was likely built by the Umayyads. They were a powerful family who ruled parts of Spain. Later, in the 11th century, a famous ruler named Al-Mu'tamid ibn Abbad built a beautiful palace there. This palace made the site even more famous.
