The San Vicente Reservoir is a large lake in San Diego County, California. It was made by building the San Vicente Dam. You can find it in the Cuyamaca Mountains, about 4.3 miles (6.9 km) north of Lakeside. It's a popular spot for outdoor fun!
About San Vicente Reservoir
The reservoir collects water from San Vicente Creek. It also gets water from the Colorado River. This water travels a long way through the First San Diego Aqueduct.
San Vicente Reservoir is the biggest reservoir in the city of San Diego. It can hold a lot of water, about 249,358 acre-feet!
Expanding the Reservoir
In 2009, a big project started to make the reservoir even larger. This project cost $568 million. The goal was to double the size of San Vicente Reservoir.
Officials hoped to get money from a special bond called Proposition 18. This bond was for upgrading California's water supply. Even without this money, the upgrade project continued.
Fun at San Vicente Reservoir
Making the dam taller more than doubled the reservoir's old size. It grew from 145,200,000 cubic yards (111,000,000 m³) to a huge 390,426,666 cubic yards (298,500,000 m³)!
This large reservoir is a great place for many activities. People love to go fishing here. It's also popular for boating, waterskiing, and wakeboarding.
