Sand Ridge (sometimes spelled Sandridge) is a small place in Calhoun County, West Virginia, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
Sand Ridge is located in the state of West Virginia. You can find it along U.S. Route 33 in West Virginia, which is a main road. It's south of a town called Grantsville, West Virginia. Grantsville is important because it's the county seat for Calhoun County. A county seat is like the main town where the county government offices are located.
About Sand Ridge
Sand Ridge got its name because the soil in the area is very sandy. It's a unique feature of the land there.
A Special Church
One of the most interesting things about Sand Ridge is the Round Methodist Church. This church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built by the Poling family in a very unusual way: it's completely round! The family built it this way because they believed "the devil would have no place to hide" in a round building.
Past Services
Sand Ridge used to have its own post office. However, that post office is now closed.
