Sandra Sánchez Jaime (born September 16, 1981) is a famous Spanish karateka who has now retired. She is best known for winning the gold medal in the women's kata event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Kata is a series of karate moves performed against an imaginary opponent.
Sandra has won many gold medals. She won two gold medals at the World Karate Championships in 2018 and 2021. She also won the gold medal at the European Karate Championships seven times in a row, from 2015 to 2022. She even holds a Guinness World Records title for winning the most medals in the Karate1 Premier League. She earned 35 medals in a row between 2014 and 2020!

Sandra's Amazing Karate Journey
Early Victories: European and World Success
In 2015, Sandra Sánchez won her first gold medal at the 2015 European Karate Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. That same year, she also won gold at the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan. She beat Sandy Scordo from France in the final match.
At the 2016 World Karate Championships in Linz, Austria, Sandra earned a bronze medal. In 2017, she won a silver medal at the 2017 World Games in Wrocław, Poland. She lost to Kiyou Shimizu from Japan in the final.
In 2018, Sandra had a fantastic year. She won gold medals at both the 2018 European Karate Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, and the 2018 World Karate Championships in Madrid, Spain.
More Gold Medals and Olympic Dream
Sandra continued her winning streak in 2019. She won gold at the 2019 European Karate Championships in Guadalajara, Spain. She also represented Spain at the 2019 European Games in Minsk, Belarus, where she won another gold medal. Later that year, she won gold at the 2019 World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar.
In May 2021, Sandra won yet another gold medal at the 2021 European Karate Championships in Poreč, Croatia. She then went on to represent Spain at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. There, she achieved her dream by winning the gold medal in the women's kata event. In November 2021, she won her second gold medal at the 2021 World Karate Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Final Triumphs and Retirement
Sandra won her seventh gold medal at the 2022 European Karate Championships in Gaziantep, Turkey. She also won gold at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, United States.
After the 2022 World Games, Sandra Sánchez decided to retire from competitive karate. She had an incredible career filled with many achievements.
In September 2022, a series of children's books called Kat Karateka was released. These books, written by Inés Masip and illustrated by Juan Carlos Bonache, were inspired by Sandra Sánchez's amazing karate journey.
