Sanna Nielsen was born and grew up in Edenryd, a town in Bromölla Municipality, Skåne, Sweden. Her career began early, with her first talent search in 1992 when she was just eight years old. In 1994, she won a talent show by singing "Can You Feel the Love Tonight".

When she was only eleven, Sanna performed with the danceband Mats Elmes in 1995 and 1996. Around the same time, her song "Till en fågel" became number one on the Svensktoppen chart. This made her the youngest person ever to reach the top of that chart!

Early Albums and Tours

In September 1996, Sanna released her first album, "Silvertoner". Music critics compared her to famous singers like Carola Häggkvist. She then released a Christmas album called Min önskejul in 1997 and a single "Time to Say Goodbye" in 1999. During her high school years, she studied music in Malmö.

Sanna joined several tours and concerts. In December 2001, she went on a Christmas tour with other Swedish artists. She also toured with Roger Pontare in 2002 and performed in Christmas concerts in 2003 and 2004.

In February 2006, Sanna released her second solo album, Nära mej, nära dej. The songs were written by Fredrik Kempe and Marcos Ubeda. In 2007, she toured with Shirley Clamp and Sonja Aldén. In April 2008, she released Stronger, her first album completely in English language. That same year, she released Our Christmas, another Christmas album with Shirley Clamp and Sonja Aldén.

In the final, "Empty Room" won the public vote by a lot! However, the winner is decided by both public votes and a jury vote. The jury vote put Charlotte Perrelli's song "Hero" ahead, so Sanna finished second overall. Even though she didn't win Melodifestivalen that year, "Empty Room" later won the OGAE Second Chance Contest 2008. This is a competition for songs that didn't win their national Eurovision selections.

Return in 2011

Sanna returned to Melodifestivalen 2011 with her song "I'm in Love". She won her semi-final in Gothenburg on February 12, 2011. In the grand finale, she finished in fourth place.
